Abstract

Considering the difference in the research achievements of humanities and social sciences, as well as the different roles that these sciences can play in societies, it is necessary to consider specific criteria for evaluating the professors of this group of disciplines in their career path. However, the review of the current regulations for the promotion of faculty members indicates that currently the same criteria have been defined for the promotion of professors in different fields, which, due to the essential differences of the humanities and social sciences in the type of achievements and effects, has led to Being ignored becomes part of the efforts of faculty members in this field. In this regard, in the present research, an attempt has been made to identify criteria and approaches for the evaluation of humanities and social sciences faculty members by examining the prestigious universities of the world, and to extract approaches in comparison with Iran's promotion regulations. For this purpose, first universities from America, Europe, Scandinavia and Australia were identified by observing conditions such as the position of the universities in international rankings, their geographical distribution and the availability of their information. After searching and extracting and studying the documents related to the promotion of the professors of these universities, the criteria and examples of the evaluation of their professors were identified and categorized. Then, an attempt was made to find ways to improve the existing situation in comparison with the regulations for the promotion of Iran. The results showed that although many examples of the research and executive activities of the reviewed universities were also seen in the promotion regulations of Iran, however, there are differences in the approach of the universities towards these criteria, which paying attention to them can lead to the definition of more appropriate criteria for better evaluation of professors in Humanities and social sciences.
