A Framework for the Development of Professor-Ph.D. Student Relationships in Knowledge Generation

Abstract

This Study was conducted to provide a framework for the development of relationships between professor and Ph.D. student in the generation of knowledge in higher education using a review-analytical method. For this purpose, at first, potential reasons for the lack of effective interaction and communication between professor and Ph.D. student in higher education were extracted and characterized through a relatively comprehensive research within studies and the literature related to the topic, and therefore, a framework for the development of relationships between professor and Ph.D. student was presented. The dimensions of this framework include: 1) Professional competences and interpersonal factors related to professor, 2) Professional competences and interpersonal factors related to the student and 3) Management and organizational factors. Finally, based on the proposed framework, strategies and tactics to improve and develop relationships between professor and Ph.D. student in higher education were presented.
