Co-word analysis of patents is a technique in scientometrics that leads to determine the concepts and hierarchies associated with a technology. The current research aims at determining the themes of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) through co-word analysis of patents. Google Patents and Lens (two patent databases) were searched and 223 patents were retrieved at the first step. Semi-automatic indexing of these patents resulted in 1975 index-term. The co-occurrence matrix for these index-terms created through Ravar-Matrix. Their betweeness centralities were determined by UciNet. In the next step, those terms with betweeness centrality equal to zero were put aside and 708 terms remained as a result. This guarantees the validity of terms related to the electricity of AUV technology. Finally the terms were mapped through NetDraw. Findings show that the most central subject terms for the electricity of the AUV technology include: communication systems, acoustic signals, signal transmission, navigation, control systems, antenna, cathode, sonar systems, sonar images, power systems, sensors, coordinate systems, propulsion systems, and power supply. The trends of AUV literature review confirm these results.
